Our Story

SunCari was born from love, sacrifice, and the dream of giving back.

Our story begins in the Dominican Republic, the island our founder’s family has always called home. It is a place filled with beauty, warmth, life, and soul, a paradise not only because of its beaches and sunshine, but because of its people. For the CEO of SunCari, the Dominican Republic is more than where his family comes from. It is part of who he is, and part of the foundation on which this brand was built.

SunCari was inspired by the story of a mother’s sacrifice.

Our founder’s mother came to the United States from the Dominican Republic and raised him in Boston as a single mother. She did it with limited English, limited resources, and more obstacles than most people will ever fully understand. Like so many mothers, she faced difficult choices and a hard life, yet through it all, she chose to put her son first. She sacrificed her own dreams, her own comfort, and parts of her own future so that he could have a better one.

As he got older, our founder began to truly understand what that kind of love means. He started asking himself a question he still cannot fully answer: if he were placed in the same position, would he have been strong enough to do what she did for him? To give up so much of himself so that his child could have more? That is the kind of sacrifice a mother makes without asking for recognition and without expecting anything in return.

In 2022, he was given a gift he will carry with him forever. He spent 45 days in Santiago, Dominican Republic, with his mother, grandmother, aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family. His grandmother, who was the rock of the family, brought everyone together one last time before she passed away at 92 years old. During those days, he experienced the Dominican Republic not as a visitor, but as home. He ran errands, went food shopping, paid bills, and lived alongside the people and culture that shaped his family. Most importantly, he was able to spend precious time with his grandmother in her final days, time that changed him forever.

After she passed, everything became clearer.

He realized that the Dominican Republic was not just his family’s past. It was part of their healing, their identity, and their future. The warmth of the island, the energy of the people, and the sense of belonging he found there stayed with him in a way that life in the Northeast never could. That feeling became the inspiration for SunCari.

SunCari is more than a brand. It is a mission.

What began as one man’s deeply personal vision is now being built into a brand with a greater purpose. Together, our team is working to celebrate the beauty, pride, and spirit of the Caribbean, Central America, and the cultures that bring color, warmth, and joy into the world. Every collection, every design, and every step forward is rooted in that mission.

At the center of SunCari is one deeply personal goal from our CEO: to give back to the woman who gave everything for him.

His dream is to provide his mother with the life she deserves in her later years. He wants to buy her a home in the Dominican Republic, a place she can finally call her own. A place of peace, comfort, and dignity. A place where she can enjoy the life she sacrificed so much to make possible for him. He wants to make sure she has the things she needs to live comfortably, from everyday peace of mind to the security she has never truly had. And yes, maybe even a small place nearby too, so he is never far from her.

That mission is part of what drives SunCari forward.
